> dijitul support moves UK websites between hosting providers, servers and domains without losing content, email or search rankings. We copy the files and database, test the site on the new server before switching DNS, plan email and redirects, and watch it after go-live. Straightforward moves are £45 an hour + VAT; larger migrations are quoted.

## Common symptoms

- Your hosting renewal has jumped in price and you want to move
- Your current host is slow, unreliable or has poor support
- You need to move a site away from a developer who still controls the hosting
- You are changing domain name and are worried about losing rankings
- A previous move broke images, links or email
- You are moving from Wix or Squarespace to WordPress, or the other way

## Key facts

- We test the site on the new server before DNS is changed, so visitors never see a half-moved site
- DNS TTLs are lowered in advance so the switch takes effect quickly
- Email is planned separately: moving the website must not break MX records
- Domain changes get full 301 redirects and a Search Console change of address
- We check PHP version, database collation and file permissions on the new server
- Simple moves £45 an hour + VAT; complex or multi-site migrations are quoted

## What can go wrong in a website move

Most migration problems are predictable. Images break because the site has hard-coded old URLs. Email stops arriving because someone changed the nameservers and the MX records did not come across. The site shows a database connection error because the new server uses a different MySQL user. Rankings drop because the domain changed and nobody set up 301 redirects. Contact forms stop sending because the new host blocks PHP *mail()*.

None of these are hard to avoid. They just need someone to plan the move properly instead of copying files and hoping.

## How dijitul support migrates a website

- **Audit the old setup.** We record DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT for SPF, DKIM and DMARC), PHP version, cron jobs, SSL setup, email accounts and anything else running on the old hosting.
- **Lower the DNS TTL** a day or two ahead, so when we switch, resolvers pick up the change quickly.
- **Copy files and database** to the new server, and search-and-replace URLs safely in the database, including serialised data that a plain find-and-replace would corrupt.
- **Test before go-live** using a hosts file entry or temporary URL, checking pages, forms, logins and checkout.
- **Switch DNS** at a quiet time, issue the SSL certificate on the new server and confirm HTTPS works.
- **Final sync and monitor.** On busy sites and shops we freeze changes briefly and resync the database so no orders are lost, then watch error logs after the move.

We keep the old hosting running for a short overlap period rather than cancelling it on the day, so if anything has been missed, such as a forgotten subdomain, a scheduled task or an old mailbox, it can still be recovered. Only once everything has been confirmed on the new server do we suggest closing the old account.

## Email, DNS and the domain

Your website, email and domain are often all tangled up with one provider. Moving nameservers moves every DNS record, so if your email lives with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, those MX, SPF, DKIM and autodiscover records must be recreated exactly at the new DNS host first. We map this out before anything changes. For domain and DNS work on its own, see domain and DNS support. If you are looking for a new home for the site, our sister company offers UK web hosting, though we will happily move you to any reputable host you choose.

## Changing domain name without losing rankings

A domain change is the riskiest kind of migration for SEO. We map every old URL to its new equivalent and set up permanent 301 redirects at server level, not with a plugin that can be switched off. Then we use Google Search Console's Change of Address tool, update the sitemap, and keep the old domain registered and redirecting for the long term. We also update Google Business Profile, social profiles and your email signatures so the old domain is not left as the main reference.

## Moving between platforms

Moving from Wix, Squarespace or an old bespoke system to WordPress, or from WordPress to Shopify, is more than a hosting move: the content is exported, reshaped and imported, and the design rebuilt. That is quoted work. We will still handle the parts that protect you: URL mapping, redirects, and making sure contact forms and email work on day one. See Wix and Squarespace support if you are staying on those platforms.

## Cost

Moving a single WordPress site with email staying where it is typically takes a few hours at **£45 an hour + VAT**. Sites with many email accounts, multiple domains, online shops with constant orders, or platform changes are quoted after we have looked at the setup. Once moved, a monthly plan from £25 a month + VAT keeps the site updated, backed up and monitored on its new home. Ask for a quote.

## FAQs

### Will my website go down during a migration?

Usually not noticeably. dijitul support builds and tests the site on the new server first, then switches DNS. During propagation some visitors see the old server and some the new, but both work. For shops we briefly pause changes and resync so no orders are lost.

### Will my email stop working if I move my website?

It should not, if the move is planned. Email depends on MX and related DNS records, which must be copied exactly if nameservers change. dijitul support records every DNS record before the move and recreates them first, so mail keeps flowing.

### How long does DNS propagation take?

It depends on the TTL set on your records. With a long TTL, some resolvers can keep the old address for a day or more. We lower TTLs in advance, so most visitors see the new server within minutes to an hour of switching.

### Will changing domain name hurt my Google rankings?

There is usually a short wobble while Google processes the change. With page-by-page 301 redirects, Search Console's Change of Address tool and the old domain kept redirecting long term, most sites recover. Without redirects, rankings can be lost for good.

### How much does a website migration cost?

dijitul support charges £45 an hour + VAT for straightforward moves, such as one WordPress site moving host. Migrations involving many email accounts, several domains, busy shops or a change of platform are quoted after we look at your setup.

### My old developer controls the hosting. Can you still move it?

Often, yes. If you own the domain, we can rebuild access and move the site. If the developer holds the domain registration too, we help you request it, as domain registrants have the right to transfer. See our abandoned website support page.
