Which ChatGPT plan does a business need?
OpenAI's pricing page splits ChatGPT into individual plans (Free, Go, Plus and Pro) and plans for organisations (Business and Enterprise, with Edu for universities). The individual plans belong to the person, not the company. When someone leaves, their chats, files and custom GPTs go with them, and you have no admin view of what was shared.
ChatGPT Business (renamed from ChatGPT Team in August 2025, according to OpenAI's help centre) gives you a company workspace from two users upwards. OpenAI describes it as having an admin console, SAML single sign-on, MFA support, domain verification and unified billing, and states that business data is not used to train its models. You can mix Standard seats for everyday use with Premium seats that carry several times more usage for heavier users.
ChatGPT Enterprise is sold through OpenAI's sales team and adds SCIM user provisioning, role-based access controls, an analytics dashboard, a compliance API and a choice of data residency regions, which OpenAI lists as including the UK. For most small businesses, Business is the right fit; Enterprise starts to matter when you need automatic user provisioning or contractual data residency.

What our setup covers
- Workspace and domain: create the workspace and verify your domain with a DNS TXT record, which proves to OpenAI that the workspace owns your company email domain and is needed before single sign-on can be switched on.
- Single sign-on: connect SAML SSO to Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace so staff log in with their work account and lose access the moment you disable it.
- Seats: decide who needs Standard and who needs Premium, based on how they actually use it.
- Moving people over: help staff move away from personal accounts and remind them to delete company data from those accounts.
- Connectors and apps: decide which connectors to allow, for example SharePoint, Google Drive or Gmail, and who can use them. Fewer connectors means less data in play.
- Custom GPTs: set sharing rules so internal GPTs stay inside the workspace.
- Policy: agree a short written AI acceptable use policy that covers what can and cannot be pasted in.
Data protection and UK GDPR
If your team puts personal data into ChatGPT, you are processing that data and UK GDPR applies. Practical steps we help with:

- Decide which kinds of data are banned outright, such as special category data, client financial details or anything covered by a confidentiality agreement.

ChatGPT, Copilot or both?
If you already pay for Microsoft 365, it is worth comparing ChatGPT Business with Microsoft 365 Copilot before buying. Copilot works inside Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams and reads your Microsoft 365 data in place. ChatGPT Business is a separate app with its own strengths, and it can reach your files through connectors. Some businesses run both: Copilot for document and email work, ChatGPT for research and analysis. Paying for both for everyone is rarely sensible. We help you decide per role, not per company.

Setup is charged at £45 an hour + VAT, with a 30-minute minimum, then 15-minute blocks. A small team with Microsoft 365 already in place usually needs a few hours for workspace, SSO, connectors and a policy draft. You pay OpenAI directly for seats; we do not resell or mark up subscriptions.
On the Complete plan at £99 a month + VAT, adding and removing users, SSO problems and connector questions are covered by the included helpdesk hours.

Frequently asked questions
Is ChatGPT Team the same as ChatGPT Business?
Yes. OpenAI renamed ChatGPT Team to ChatGPT Business in August 2025. The workspace, admin console and data controls carried over. dijitul can check that an existing Team workspace is still configured sensibly, including domain verification and single sign-on.
Does OpenAI train on our ChatGPT Business data?
OpenAI states that data in ChatGPT Business is not used to train its models by default. Individual Free, Go and Plus accounts work differently and have an opt-out instead. That difference is one of the main reasons dijitul recommends moving staff off personal accounts.
Can staff log in with their Microsoft 365 accounts?
Yes. ChatGPT Business supports SAML single sign-on, so dijitul can connect it to Microsoft Entra ID or Google Workspace. Staff then sign in with their work account, MFA rules apply, and disabling a leaver's account removes their ChatGPT access at the same time.
What is the minimum number of users?
OpenAI's pricing page says ChatGPT Business is available from 2 users. You can mix Standard and Premium seats. Sole traders usually stay on an individual plan, although dijitul still recommends a separate work account rather than mixing personal and client use.
Should we buy Enterprise instead?
