What we fix on Windows PCs and laptops
Most PC problems come from software, not hardware: too many start-up programs, a full disk, a bad driver or an update that half-installed. dijitul support connects remotely, finds the cause and fixes it, rather than just reinstalling Windows and hoping. For the wider IT service see IT support, and for Apple machines see Mac support.
- Slow PCs: we check disk health with SMART data, free space, start-up apps, background sync and memory use.
- Blue screens: we read the stop code and minidump to find the faulty driver, often graphics, network or storage.
- Failed updates: we reset Windows Update components, run DISM and SFC to repair system files, and free up space.
- Software: installs, updates and licensing. See software installation support.
Windows 10 end of support and Windows 11
Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025. PCs still running it no longer get regular security updates unless enrolled in Microsoft's paid or temporary Extended Security Updates programme, which is a stopgap, not a plan.
Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0, UEFI with Secure Boot, and a supported processor (broadly Intel 8th generation or AMD Ryzen 2000 series and later). Many PCs that 'fail' the check just need TPM or Secure Boot switching on in the firmware settings. We check each machine and tell you which can be upgraded and which should be replaced. Upgrades are done remotely, after checking your business software works on Windows 11.
BitLocker and security
BitLocker encrypts the drive so a lost laptop does not mean lost data. It sometimes asks for a 48-digit recovery key after a firmware or BIOS update. If the key was never saved, the data may be unrecoverable. We make sure keys are backed up to Microsoft Entra ID for work devices, or the user's Microsoft account for others.
We also check that Microsoft Defender is active, Windows Firewall is on, staff use standard user accounts rather than admin accounts, and devices auto-update. On Business Premium we can enforce all of this through Intune. See antivirus and endpoint protection.
Setting up new laptops
A new laptop is only useful once it has the right account, apps, email, files and printers. We set it up by joining it to Microsoft Entra ID, installing Microsoft 365 apps, signing into OneDrive with Known Folder Move, adding printers and installing business software. With Windows Autopilot and Intune, a laptop can be shipped straight to a new starter and set itself up when they sign in. See new starter IT setup.
Moving from an old PC? We copy files, browser bookmarks and settings across, then wipe the old machine properly before it is reused or recycled.
Keeping data safe on PCs
Files saved only to a laptop's Desktop or Documents folder are lost if the drive fails or the laptop is stolen. The simplest protection for Microsoft 365 users is OneDrive Known Folder Move, which quietly syncs Desktop, Documents and Pictures to the cloud. For anything else, such as accounts software data, we set up a proper backup.
When a drive is failing, SMART warnings, clicking noises or very slow file access are early signs. Stop using the machine and contact us before trying recovery software, as that can make things worse. See data backup and recovery.
Price and what needs a visit
Remote PC and laptop work is £45 an hour + VAT, with a 30-minute minimum then 15-minute blocks. If a machine will not start, has a broken screen or keyboard, or needs a new drive fitted, it needs hands on: we tell you upfront and quote, or advise the manufacturer's warranty route. We do not hold hardware stock, but we will tell you exactly what specification to buy. Clients on the Complete plan at £99 a month + VAT use their 3 included hours. See the pricing page.
What it costs
Support plans from £25 a month + VAT, or £45 an hour + VAT for one-off fixes. Pick a plan if you want it looked after every month, or pay by the hour for a one-off job.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my PC so slow?
Common causes are a nearly full or failing drive, too many start-up programs, old hard disks instead of SSDs, or not enough memory. dijitul checks disk health, start-up apps and resource use remotely and fixes the cause.
Can my PC run Windows 11?
It needs TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and a supported processor, broadly Intel 8th generation or AMD Ryzen 2000 and later. Some PCs only need TPM or Secure Boot enabling in firmware. dijitul checks each machine for you.
Is it safe to keep using Windows 10?
Windows 10 reached end of support on 14 October 2025. Without Extended Security Updates it receives no security fixes, which makes it a growing risk for business use. dijitul helps you upgrade or plan replacements.
My laptop is asking for a BitLocker recovery key. What do I do?
Do not keep guessing. For a work device the key is usually stored in Microsoft Entra ID, and for a personal device in your Microsoft account. dijitul can find the key and get you back in.
How much does PC repair cost?
dijitul charges £45 an hour + VAT for remote PC and laptop work, with a 30-minute minimum. Hardware repairs and on-site work are quoted upfront. Most slow PC, update and driver problems are fixed in one remote session, and you see everything we do on screen.
Can you set up a new laptop for a new starter?
Yes. dijitul sets up accounts, Microsoft 365 apps, OneDrive, printers and business software, mostly remotely. With Intune and Windows Autopilot, laptops can set themselves up when the new starter first signs in.
